(sorry i skipped it)
Day 1 Sunday Aug 26th Mike
I wake up, to a phone message telling me that today is Mike's day,
and that Paul will pick me up around 11am. When he arrives, he tells
me that my day is starting at La Petite Beauty. Desiree does my hair.
After trimming it, she blows it dry and sets it on hot rollers to
give it movement. Once I am set, I am sent off to Chantal, who gives
me a manicure and pedicure. She asks me what I am wearing tonight and
is shocked to hear that I have no clue.
"You're going out and have no idea what you are wearing?"
Slightly offended by her attitude, I respond, "well, I am being
treated to an outfit also, and we haven't picked it up yet."
"Well, I guess that we can find some colour to suit. How
about `Demure'."
"That's fine, it looks like it would go with whatever is picked out."
Now understand that I am very uncomfortable. I feel like I am so out
of place. We are talking snob central. Once my nails are done, Serena
does my make-up. She is the total opposite of Desiree and Chantal.
Once I am seated, she starts asking about dinner. I told her the
story and she was amazed, then I asked about the other two. She told
me that they are very French and snobby. If you don't meet their
expectations then they feel superior to you. Now that my make-up is
complete, Desiree finishes my hair. She brought the sides up and
placed some baby's breath to adorn the top. Paul comes back to pick
me up and says "Let's rock `n roll."
Once in the limo I tell Paul about the girls, all he can say is that
it figures Mike would pick somewhere like that. I ignore the
comment. We arrive at Radiance Boutique where we meet Yvette.
Yvette welcomes me by saying, "you must be Sharane. Mike was right
you are easy on the eyes, although I am concerned that the clothes
won't fit. You see, we specialize in clothing for the 14 and up gal."
"Well that would be me."
"Well then, let's get started. Mike wasn't sure what would look best,
so he picked out a pants suit, a skirt and blouse, and a dress."
After trying on the pants and skirt, it was decided that neither one
did anything good for me. The dress was a different story. Mike
picked out a long princess cut pale pink dress, embroidered with tiny
white flowers and a high neckline. It had length sleeves with a bit
of lace edging. Being August in California, it is hot, but the fabric
was light and airy. When I walked out of the dressing room, Paul and
Yvette were full of compliments. As we left I thanked Yvette for her
help, and Paul told me that we are now on our way to L'Orangerie
where I will meet up with the others.
6pm
Paul opens the door to the limo and I get out. The boys gasp, Mike
takes my arm to escort me into L'Orangerie.
"From your reactions, I guess I clean up pretty good."
Micky says, "Pretty good?"
"Umm good?" Sputters Peter.
And Davy keeps his cool with a, "You're lovely darling."
Mike, who doesn't say anything about the dress, starts talking about
the restaurant. "This is my favorite restaurant. Usually I think that
this painting is the most beautiful thing here, but tonight it pales
in comparison."
After we are seated, we choose our main course. Soon the waiter
served French Onion Soup. Our conversation was simple, starting out
with, what else the TV show. Next, we are served Brochetta, followed
by the main course. Davy and I had Chicken Kiev, Mike chose Lamb with
mint jelly, while Micky had Coq au Vin. While I was looking at the
menu, I was concerned that it would be difficult for Peter to find a
vegetarian dish. Luckily, he was able to order Orzo with Feta, green
bean and tomatoes. It is at this point; that I find out that this is
a six-course dinner, including coffee before dessert. Also it is no
rush, we started at six and Mike doesn't expect us to be finished
until nine. Conversation toured music and movie preferences to
comparing injuries. Basically, we laughed and cried and laughed
again. Finally, I brought up the bet.
"So tell me about this bet you have."
Shocked, Davy asks, "Bet, what bet?"
"Well, while I was talking to Paul, he mentioned that Brett was
intrigued by the interest you are showing in me. Basically he thinks
that you must have a bet going to see who can impress me the most."
Mike, being sensible but somehow coming off as arrogant,
responds "Well that is just not true."
"So if there is no bet, than I guess you are doing this so I will
sleep with one of you."
"I can't believe that you think so little of us."
"Mike, give her some credit, can't you see that glint in her eye. She
is just teasing," Micky tells him. Turning to me he
explains, "Seriously, there is a competition, but no real winner
except for you."
"But you are spending so much on someone who in a matter of days will
be out of your lives."
With a glint in his eyes, Davy says, "Oh, don't even think that, we
will not be out of your hair for quite awhile. But we will talk more
about that later."
Before I can respond, Peter asks me about his day, which is
tomorrow. "Do you have any objections to wearing leather?"
"No, why?"
"Well, I didn't want to arrange for an outfit that you would have
objection to wearing."
"In my happy little world the animals give the leather freely, and
without pain. Don't I have a wonderful fantasy life?"
Mike, shaking his head and under his breath, says "Leather? What's
next, burgers and fries"
"One never knows." Remarks Peter.
We are served coffee or tea, and finally Crepe Suzette and Crme
Brulee. Luckily Mike had thought ahead and ordered so we would
share. After dinner, we say good-bye to Micky, Peter and Davy. Mike
accompanies me back to the hotel.
After a brief silence, Mike asks, "have you been comfortable with all
the attention?"
"Actually, I am really enjoying myself. Usually I am very quiet but
I find myself able to relax when in your company. Almost to the point
where I will be unable to return home and go back to work."
"Well then, it sounds like you are having a fine time."
"There is one thing, umm, if it's not too much of a problem, could
you pick me up at the hotel tomorrow? Paul is great company and I
love the reactions but I am feeling a little lonely."
"We can't have that. I will definitely mention it to the others. I
do believe the plan is that Micky's daughter, Ami, will be spending
the day with you."
"Kewl"
As the car stops, Paul announces that we have arrived at the hotel.
"See you at the bar around 5:30 tomorrow night." Mike, pauses, then
says "Good night."
"Umm, Ok. Goodnight."
Paul opens the door and walks me to the entrance. As I walked
inside, I was slightly bothered by the fact that I was not escorted
in by Mike. Maybe I was overreacting. Zach, just happened to be going
off work, and came over.
"Alone?" he asks.
"Yeah, Paul took Mike home. I'm a little disappointed that no one
walked me in."
"Well if you want, I can walk you up."
"Thank you, I really appreciate it. I know that I am safe here but it
makes me feel better walking with someone."
As Zach pushes the elevator button he says, "No problem. How was
dinner?"
"It was fabulous. A French meal, from start to finish." During the
ride up to the eleventh floor, I tell him about the food.
"That sounds delectable." Pausing at my door, we say our good
byes. "Have a nice night."
"Thank you Zach."
