Roasting Steve
When Paul leaves, Davy takes my arm and escorts me inside, where we are greeted by Goldie Hawn and Kirk Douglas. Diane Keaton soon comes over to join the conversation. Conversation circled around Steve and the many musicals and comedies he has done. I was not saying much, which was noticed.
Goldie decided it was her job to address that, "You seem quiet, don't you like Steve?"
"When I get nervous I either chatter on or become very quiet. I really don't want to end up saying the wrong thing."
Smiling she tells me, "Just relax, we won't ask for your first born."
"That's a relief, considering my first born is already promised to the boys."
Everyone laughs, and the tension is broken. We are shown to our seats and Davy mentions that they will be right back, as they have to find out when they are performing. When Mike notices that I'm alone, he comes over to say hi.

"Greetings Mike. Are you performing with the others?"
"No, I declined, due to a difference of opinion."
        "Oh, that is too bad."
Goldie interrupts before Mike can say anything more. She introduces me to Steve and we have a short conversation about Star Trek and his films. Before they leave, he asks, "Will you save me a dance?"
"If you can get the boys away from me, I'm yours. "
During the meal, the screens show clips of Steve, dancing, singing and in his various films. Before dessert is served, The Monkees performed followed by a skit with Chevy Chase and Martin Short. People were, then, asked to come up to the mike and relay some antidotes and finally Meat Loaf performed I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won t Do That). When he was done, Davy brought me over to meet him and Patrick. Our conversation was short, but we exchanged addresses so we could talk again. I was beginning to wonder what was going on. When did I start exchanging addresses and phone numbers with celebrities?
The dancing started as soon as the dishes were cleared. The band was well rounded musically, playing a little bit of everything. Steve asked me to dance with me during To Make You Feel My Love. The band then picked up the pace with Zoot Suit Riot, during which Peter and I cleared the floor. Things calmed down when Davy requested All I Ask of You, when we danced it was magic. Micky started getting jealous in a friendly way, but his eyes lit up when it was announced that next was the Beer Barrel Polka. Now, no one thought that I, someone so young could do that, but little did they know I grew up with it. We were one of the last couples on the floor. I sit the next few out since I'm breathless. This gives the boys time to mingle but it also gave Mike time to attack. Now it didn't happen right away, couples came and went, chatting about this and that. I don't notice his approach since I was deep in thought about feeling like I'm part of the popular kids back in school.

"So tomorrow is the big day?"
        Startled I ask, "What?"
"You are going on the road with them."
"What are you talking about, Mike?"
"You mean that they haven't told you? Oh, that's rich. They're leaving to go back on tour; and you are going with them. You're turning out to be quite the little companion." *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*
At this point, Paul and Laura come over, breaking up what Mike is doing. "Good evening Mike, Sharane. You remember my girlfriend, Laura."
Mike politely says, "Evening Paul, Laura."
"Greetings. How are you this evening?" I respond, trying to get the fire out of my eyes.
Laura, seeing that look, says, "I am well. Sharane, could I steal you for a minute."
"Certainly, if you would both excuse me."
Laura and I walk out to the balcony where I give her the play by play of the afternoon affair.

"Wow, you gave them that ultimatum? That took guts."
"I did, basically I told them how they had made me feel. They admitted that they are planning on taking me on tour but we ran out of time. Oh can I ask you something?" When she nods I continue, "I seem to be the happening thing, when did that happen?"
"Well, there was a rumor going around that the person that won the contest was an untalented putz. Then when the boys put you up on stage, you rocked and dispelled that myth. It peaked a lot of curiosity when the boys took an interest in you. Believe me, the respect that you have shown to everyone you meet, is what has put you over the top."
        "Ok, what about Mike?"
"That's easy, he's jealous - plain and simple. When he found out that you have some culture, he kind of wanted to take you under his wing. Hoping that you would also find it in you to worship him."
"Not going to happen."
Laura laughs, "When Mike figured that out, he decided that this interest the boys have is equal to a group of middle aged men on a power trip. Actually, I believe the term he used was unhealthy."
"He obviously doesn't think that much of them. Although, I do believe that the appropriate term would be mid-life crisis."
"I have to agree with you there."
We burst out in laughter at the thought. We are still talking out on the balcony when the band takes a break; we then are able to hear the conversation below us.
"I don't think we should do this." Davy says.
Micky continues, "It's the only way she'll know that we are for real."
"What if she tries that whip thing again?" Peter asks.
Micky states, "We will deal with that if it happens."
"I just don't understand, how are we going to deal with her in such close quarters. At least when we drop her at the door, we have some reprieve. But on the bus"
Davy, slightly appalled, exclaims, "Peter! Is that all you think about?"
"Well, no, but don't you agree, that is something that needs to be undressed?"
"Don't you mean addressed?" corrects Micky.
"That's what I said!"
Davy clears his throat and continues with, "Anyway, her mom says that this would be a great experience and she doesn't see any reason why Sharane would decline. If she does it is because she is scared."
"At least that is something we all have in common," says Micky
Laura and I are in shock as we walk back to the ballroom. Paul meets us; Mike is nowhere around. Seeing the look on our faces he asks, "Something wrong?"
"No, not really. We just overheard some interesting conversation," explains Laura.
        "About?"
I smile and say, "Me - touring - no outlet for sexual frustration."
"Oh, and just why were you listening in?"
"It was an accident, remember we saved her from Mike? We went to the balcony to talk and when the music stopped, we could hear them," Laura tells him.
"Actually I make it a point to be out on balconies just incase someone is planning to whisk me away."
"You know, sometimes your sarcasm is irritating," says Paul.
"Yup and that's why you love me." I say as I wink at Laura.
Paul just grumbles; Laura and I are overcome with laughter. The boys approach and ask what is so funny. I told them that they had to be there.

"Are you ready?" Davy asks.
        "Ready for what?"
"It is time for us to leave."
        "So early?"
"Luv, the night is far from over."
Mike comes over, ignoring the boys, asks me for a dance.

I politely decline by saying, "I don't think that is such a good idea, Mike. Our last conversation was proof of that."
"You're going to let that stop you?"
"Actually, we are just on our way out. Since this will probably be the last time, we see each other, at least for a while; I have to admit it was an experience meeting you. Let me offer you a bit of advice - stop trying to hide what you were - embrace it and you will find peace."
        "What's that suppose to mean?"
"Think about it. Good bye Mike."
Paul and Laura walk me out. I hug and thank him for showing me around and for putting up with my sarcasm. I tell Laura not to let this one go, and that I hope everything works out for the wedding. She tells me that she hopes that I can come. I bid them ado, when Micky meets up with us. "I hope that you weren't too disappointed by leaving early."
        "No, just a little confused."
When we approach the other two, he tells me, "We need to talk - seriously."
"Oh, now it comes out. Serious, huh, ok so what's the order? Micky first, then Peter and lastly Davy?"
        "Huh?"
"Nevermind, you really should be careful where you hold conversations. Always look above."
        "You were listening in?"
"Not purposely, if you had not left me alone where Mike could corner me and let me in on the plan. I would be oblivious to everything. You see, Laura and I were on the balcony when we heard some voices and it turned out to be you."
        "So Mike told you"
"Well he said that you are going back on tour tomorrow, then babbled something about me turning out to be quite the little companion."
"He is quite the linguist, isn't he? As you know, we do want you to tour with us, but it is not going to be a free ride. We will find you something to do, to earn your keep."
"That is understandable. What are the sleeping arrangements?"
"I knew this was coming. Let's hold this part till we get to Davy's," was all Peter could say.
Once in the car, Davy tells me that the next stop was for dessert. After discussing it, it was decided that we would just get some take-out. Since were all tired, crashing seemed the best idea, not to mention the big discussion that was about to take place. Once back at the house, I start the conversation.

"I think I know what some of the problem is and more importantly I have a simple solution."
Davy suspiciously says, "Alright, lets hear it Luv."
"Honestly, right now, for whatever reason you consider me inaccessible. That could be one reason that you are attracted to me. If each one of you kiss me - and I don't mean a peck on the cheek - you may find that fantasy is better than reality."
"Isn't that inviting trouble? What happens if we find * that * enjoyably - to the point of reaching for the next level?" asks Micky.
"Well that would be problem, but we are all adults, I think we can handle this. Ask yourselves - do you really think that after one night of sex, the thrill would still be there?
"I hadn't thought of it that way."
"Also, have any of you thought about the long run? Here is some food for thought; to me a relationship starts with dating. Ok, we have hit upon this one some, but not one on one yet. I like to be treated like a lady, my favorite times in history is when courting existed. A nice easy progression is what I want. Think about it for a moment, is that what you want? I'm at a time in my life where I am looking to my future and wanting to see who I'm going to spend the rest of my life with."
"No casual sex then?" asks Peter.
"Well, I didn't say that wasn't a possibility, but I want you to look at the long term goals." I pause and continue with, "Now onto the more controversial item. Are you ready for the repercussions?"
Ponders Peter, "Repercussions?"
"Yes, you already know what Mike says, it is only bound to get worse."
"We will be dealing with that whether or not a relationship happens," interjects Davy.
"Well, that's true. However, a relationship could hinder the music career you suggested for me. Don't get me wrong, I am very interested in you, but I have never been comfortable with 'talk'. You have shown me that you care and I don't want to hurt any of you. Or become a one night, or three month, stand."
Peter says under his breath, 'It wouldn't be.' Then continues, "I know that age is a factor, but honestly, I am interested."
"I am starting to think for me, it may be fantasy," admits Micky
"You're awfully quiet, Davy."
"I think that he is waiting to talk to you after," Peter says. "Micky, I think it is time for us to go."
I walk them out to the car; the next thing I know Micky is kissing meit takes me aback. There was no pecking about it; it was a wonderful full mouth, passionate kiss. I am speechless; my whole image of him changes in a matter of seconds.

"What's the verdict, Micky?" asks Peter
        "Wowsmashingwords cannot express"
Peter puts the babbling boy into the car. He turns to me and says, "You'd better take a few deep breaths before you go inside. I won't kiss you tonight but mark my words - I will."
"Is that a threat or a promise?"
        "You decide."
Slowly I walk back upstairs, unsure of what Davy was going to say. He's standing looking out one of the windows. He appears to be deep in thought so I quietly sit on the couch.

"Micky kissed you."
It wasn't a question or a statement - just a fact.

"Yes, then he babbled."
"How do you feel about it."
"It took me by surprise. I guess I wasn't swept off my feet but it did alter the way I look at him. It was very enjoyable but I didn't see stars."
        "What about what Pete said?"
"Does this conversation have a point?"
"I'm just trying to see where you're at."
"That's something I can't even answer. I wish I knew how I feel, but I don't. This is beyond my wildest dreams."
We just sit there staring at each other. I am trying not to cry but hopelessly failing. After a moment, we both speak at once.

"You go first, Davy."
"I guess that all I want to say is, I'm jealous and uneasy with the fact that Pete also wants you."
"Why does that bother you so?"
"I don't know. I wish that I understood. I wanted to rip Micky away and declare you mine. I have never felt so possessive. You make me feel drunk even when I have had nothing to drink. When you are near, I am on air but then you go and I come crashing down. You seem to have this power over me. I am just so confused, so many emotions."
"David, come here. I'm going to help clear your mind, but I need you to trust me."
"What are you going to do?"
"I want to relax and open your mindjust keep looking into my eyes. Don't try to think, just keep your eyes on mine."
As I stare into his eyes, he tries to look away; like I am showing him something, he doesn't want to see. Nevertheless, he keeps the contact, when I draw him out it is 10 minutes later and our breath is heavy.

"What was that?"
"Basically, we just took a journey. Nevermind that, what I need you to do right now is go to bed, I will see you in the morning."
        "But"
"But nothing, we will talk in the morning. Sleep well, Davy."
