It was a cold night the Monkees were left with nothing to do but go to bed after puting some extra blankets on thier beds and wrapping up warm mike cursed out loud for again not being able to pry for the heating.
Soon the lights of the Pad were switched off and the snoring of three people broke the nights silence.Peter remaned awake he for some reason could not sleep, as he lay there he felt a thirsty so got up to get some water, as he drank he looked out of the window,it had started to rain.As he stared down the beach he noticed a young woman walking alone the sand the tide rushing against her feet whivh were bare Peter saw that she was dressed only in a thin white old fashioned nightdress."what the" began the gentle band member. She will catch her death out there he thought to himself so he ran and got his jacketand ran down the stairs waking Mike as he went. "what's going on" he asked "there's some chick walking around out there, in this weather she's going to get sick" came the reply. Mike cursed loudly to himself as Peter ran out of the door waking up both Micky and Davy. "whats going on" asked the curly haired one wip-ing the tierd out of hs eyes.Mike clearly in a bad mood said "It's Peter he's chasing after some chick on the beach,we best go after him, if she is walking around in this weather she is most likley crazy." Girl or no girl Mike's friends knew you never woke Mike up unless he was on fire and even then he would be pissed.when the other Monkees got to the beach they found Peter looking around aimlessly. "so,you find her "asked Davy . they could tell by the distracted look on Peters face that he had'nt. "Maybe you imagined her" offerd Micky "that chicken we had for dinner tasted a little funny, i mean before i was woke up i thought i saw santa dressed as a clown doing a tap dance on my bed or was it a clown dressed as santa."he shrugged Peter thought "i guess your right he ansewd taking one more glimpse up the beach. "the next morning still in a mood for having his sleep interupted Mike was up making the cooffe and by the time he had pourerd himself a cup he was joined by three other tird Monkees. Thay sat down at the table and Davy was first to ask "So Peter any more girls one the beach last night, maybee you could find one for each of us" laughed the short english man. "yeah" replied Mike and perhaps this time when we are not all sleeping." they con tinued to tease him over brekfast but when they see they had upset him they stopped and appologised. "Gee, Peter We're sorry babe, did'nt mean to upset you,you know". The others somtimes forgot just how sensitive Peter was.Peter said they were forgivin and the subjuct was changed. That night was just like the last cold and dark so again they all went to bed early and soon the snores orf three grown men could be heard around the Pad, only peter was still awake. He was tring to fight the need to look out of his window, he knew he saw a girl last night he knew it. Unable to resist the window any longer he got up and looked out. There she was walking down the beach, dreesed as she was last night. As quite as he could he took his jacket put it on and left the Pad on run to the water edge he stopped ten feet away and spoke "So you are real then, after last night i was'nt sure, where did you go you dissapered fast" The girl turned to face him Peter could'nt breath she was perfect from her tiny frame (she was even shorter then Davy)to her blacker thenblack hair her pierceing green eyes to her skin that was so pale it seemed to glow in the moon light.Even her bare feet which did not seem to notice the cold water lapping at them Finally Peter found his voice. "Im Peter, is every thing OK, who are you asked and took a step towards her, she took a step back.Peter stopped and said "Dont be afraid, i just wanted to see if you were OK" Again she never spoke she just turned her head and looked out to the sea and pointed, she was still pointing when she turned back silently to Peter with eyes that seemed old, tired sad and alone. |
